We regret having supported Buhari in 2015 – Spokesperson for the Forum des Aînés du Nord

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) SPOKESPERSON said Nigerians regretted supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 against former president Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking on Arise TV’s breakfast show ‘The Morning Show’ on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed said: ‘Is there a Nigerian who is not disappointed with President Buhari, there including the hard-line member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)? Is there anyone who won’t tell you that he wished President Buhari had done much better?

“We raised huge expectations, we said to people, ‘Get rid of Jonathan, put Buhari there, he’ll fix corruption, he’ll fix insecurity, he’ll fix the economy’ (but) look where we are now.

“How can anyone say he is happy with President Buhari’s record, even people very close to him would tell you that they wish he could have done a lot better and that he could have done a lot better and he didn’t.

“So what we need to do now is prepare to elect another president who would go in the opposite direction, a president who has a vision and a clear idea of what governance entails, rather than being simply a president.

“So I am disappointed and that is why today I am actively involved in trying to see a new leader emerge to give Nigerians a new lease of life.”

He said Nigeria needed a president who would realize the need to rebuild the country, secure Nigerians and control the downward trajectory of the economy.

Speaking further, BabaAhmed said he was of the opinion that the governors of the south should not make the 2023 presidency their rights but rather should negotiate as the north had lived under the southern presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Jonathan, since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

“We have lived under presidents from the south because we recognize that Nigeria is made up of sections, ethnic groups and interests. We recognize that we are northerners, pluralism is in our DNA, we accept it, we live with it, ”he said.
