Dealing with criticism of your own creative work can be difficult. I should know. But when responding to criticism involves, well, hitting marginalized communities or embarking on random, unrelated political tirades that recklessly hit people trying to stay healthy and safe during the ongoing pandemic, it crosses a line according to Valve. This has been the situation for the developer behind the Steam game dominatrixDolphin Barn Incorporated, which recently got into hot water after Valve responded to the developer’s “abusive” actions and continued misbehavior on the platform.

Described by Gamer on PC as the “least friendly developer on Steam“, Dolphin Barn Incorporated has repeatedly found itself in embarrassing and horrific situations around its game dominatrixa pixel gladiator simulation released in 2017. Known for responding to negative comments with bigoted political views that also appeared in the patch notes, Dolphin Barn received a ban on the Steam Community Forums of his own. game. Valve highlighted offensive behavior that included “insulting or flaming another user” and a “general trend with abusive messages sent when banning players from [the game’s] centre.” These decisions come a few years after Valve has pivoted to a more hands-on moderation policy on Steamdeciding to only weigh in on content that the company deems “illegal or trolling”.

Kotaku has contacted Valve to comment on this situation and its moderation policies.

As reported by Eurogamer during the weekend, Dolphin Barn Incorporated took to Twitter share the news of his ban dominatrixon the Steam community forums, where a warning stated that this was the “second time that one of the [its] posts violates [Valve’s] discussion rules and guidelines. Whereas the insertion of nonsensical anti-mask groceries rants and anti-trans rants in the patch notes earned the developer some well-deserved reviews, that’s not necessarily what got them into trouble with Valve this time around. Rather, their hostile and errant behavior on the Steam community forums in response to player criticism is much of what is being scrutinized.

Dolphin Barn Incorporated Steam Account reveals their forum posting history, which includes calling people a “naughty c word“, amid accusations those who criticized the DLC are posting”fraudulent review.” The developer has made a habit of banning users on the Steam community forum who have raised this issue, and has repeatedly called out people “retarded,” “betas“, accused the people of being “altered, inferior and useless” “totally illiterate,” “cowards.” The developer random quotes from the Biblemaintains that they work”for God», and vaguely compared themselves to «Socrates, Jesus of Nazareth” and “Galilee.” He also at one point told someone that “if you want me to chew your breakfast and [fuck] your girlfriend for you too, send me your address. They also constantly refer to centurions and armies.

Kotaku has contacted Dolphin Barn Incorporated to comment on this situation.

In response to the latest actions Valve has taken against Dolphin Barn, the developer posted an update on Steam with the agonizing title “FINISHED.” Here he repeats accusations of “dozens of fraudulent reviews” from dominatrixspeculates on the genitals of those who issued the ban and casts doubt on whether the game will receive future updates on the platform.
