The Page County Public Forum is an upcoming discussion of benefits and assistance available to local residents, where and how to seek and receive assistance.
This event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Luray VFW, 218 Veterans Lane, Luray.
Guest speakers will be Lois Shaffer, Director of Page One, Joe Fudge, Director of Arise, and Linda McClain, Benefits Manager, Virginia Department of Social Services.
Page One offers many services, including family assistance with food, gas cards, rent, and utilities; for veterans and seniors and also offers assistance by providing contacts for housing, medical and dental care and professional support specialist. All of this on top of operating three successful thrift stores to help fund their services.
Arise offers meal programs, housing, job placement, emergency housing for up to three days, and resume assistance. They deliver 40 meals a day, three days a week. They fed 4,000 meals last year and are expected to feed 5,000 to 6,000 this year.
The Virginia Department of Social Services offers many services and Linda McClain will offer tips on completing applications and obtaining these services successfully.
