Hishammuddin to speak at international forum on vaccine cooperation tonight (August 5)

PUTRAJAYA (Bern): Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is expected to speak on vaccine hoarding and stress the importance of equitable distribution, at the first meeting of the International Forum on Vaccine Cooperation on Thursday August 5 at night.

The forum hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry via an online meeting platform will focus on vaccine production capacity and technology collaboration, with a view to greater accessibility and affordability of vaccines for developing countries in order to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) today, Hishammuddin will also emphasize the urgent need to make vaccines accessible and affordable, as a way forward in the fight against the pandemic.

The forum chaired by Wang Yi, State Councilor and Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, will issue a joint statement at the end to demonstrate the unity and firm commitment of participating countries in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic through international cooperation on vaccines.

On November 18, 2020, Malaysia and China signed the Vaccine Development and Accessibility Cooperation Agreement, which provides for Malaysia to purchase Chinese vaccines and engage in joint technical collaboration in vaccine development. , especially for Halal certified vaccines. – Bernama
